TAUNTON – Francis J. Moniz, the husband of Lydia (Correia) Moniz, died at Morton Hospital on Aug. 28, 2009.
He was 85.
Born in Taunton, he was the son of the late Frank and Ida (Paige) Moniz.
Educated in Taunton schools, Mr. Moniz graduated from Taunton High School in 1943.
He later enlisted in the US Army, where he served with the 3rd Infantry Division during WW II, and saw action in numerous battles and campaigns.
Among his many decorations and citations, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, and the Purple Heart.
Mr. Moniz was later employed by the Paul A. Dever School, where he worked as a carpenter for over 24 years, retiring in 1988.
He was a communicant of Annunciation of the Lord Church, and a member of the Taunton Boat Club.
Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, Michael J. Moniz of Clearwater, FL, James E. Moniz and his wife Susan of Bethlehem, PA, and David J. Moniz and his wife Susan of Falmouth; a daughter, Karen R. Cordeiro and her husband Richard of Taunton; a sister, Irene Rozzi and her husband Edward of Meridan, CT; close extended family members, Richard Silvia and his wife Linda of E. Taunton, and George Silvia and his wife Pat of Taunton; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was also the brother of the late Mary Correia.
Funeral Services will be held at the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway on Monday, Aug. 31st at 11 a.m. followed by burial at the Mass. National VA Cemetery in Bourne at 2 p.m.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, Aug. 30th from 5 to 8 p.m.
