New Bedford - Walter S. Oliver, age 85 years, died Wednesday, August 26, 2009, peacefully at Taber Street Nursing Center. He was the loved husband of Gilda (Lauriello) Oliver of North Dartmouth; they were married for 59 years. Walter was the loving father of Walter Oliver Jr.of New Jersey, Edward Oliver of New Bedford, Barbara Gallagher of Acushnet and Ana Graham of Vermont. Walter was the grandfather of 11 and great-grandfather of 4. Two of his grandchildren preceded him Leah who was killed on 9/11 in New York and Patrick who was killed in action in Iraq.
Mr. Oliver was the son of the late Joseph and Diana (Nunes) Oliver. He was a life long resident of this area. Walter worked as postal carrier. He served in the U.S. Army as a Master Sergeant during WWII and the Korean Conflict. Walter was a member of Disabled American Veteran Chapter # 7.
In accordance with his wishes he will be cremated.
