GLOUCESTER: Warren F. Johnson, 82, of Cherry Street went to his eternal rest on Monday, August 24, 2009 following an extended illness. He was the husband of Marjorie E. (Silva) Johnson.
Born in Concord on September 18, 1926, he was the son of the late Herman B. and Annie F. (Carlson) Johnson. His mother died during childbirth and he was raised by his father and stepmother, the late Doris (Oman) Johnson.
A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he served aboard the USS Landing Craft Infantry 461 and was honorably discharged in August of 1946.
A member of the I.B.E.W., he was employed as an electrician for the Conrail Railroad for over forty years, having retired in 1988.
Mr. Johnson was a life member of the Gloucester Lodge of Elks No. 892. He enjoyed model trains, woodworking and spending time with his grandsons. He will be greatly missed.
In addition to his wife of fifty-four years, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Diane and David Merck of West Springfield, two grandsons, Nathaniel W. Merck and Jonathan A. Merck of West Springfield, a brother, Stanley B. Johnson of South Acton, his sister-in-law, Sharon, wife of Frederick Parady of Gloucester, a niece, Lisa Krause of South Acton, a nephew, Paul Johnson and his wife Donna of Concord, a grandniece, Ashley Krause of South Acton, and several other nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends. He was also predeceased by his sisters-in-law, Barbara Johnson, Marilyn Cataldo and Barbara Durham.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, September 3rd in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. His funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 5th in the St. Paul Lutheran Church at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the St. Paul Lutheran Church “Building Fund”, 1123 Washington St., Gloucester, MA 01930 or the Cape Ann Animal Aid, 260 Main St., Gloucester, MA 01930. Interment will be held in the Seaside Cemetery, Lanesville.
