GLOUCESTER: William E. “Billy” Natti, 89, of 1142 Washington Street died early Tuesday morning, August 25, 2009 in the Addison Gilbert Hospital following an extended illness. He was the husband of the late Louise F. (Armstrong) Natti, who died in November of 2004. They had shared sixty years of marriage.
Born in Gloucester on January 21, 1920, he was the son of the late Erick and Matilda (Sironen) Natti. He was a graduate of the Gloucester High School, attended the Wentworth Institute and graduated from the University of New Hampshire.
A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he served as an aviation machinist’s mate and was honorably discharged in November of 1945. While enlisted, he attended the Virginia Polytechnic Institute of Engineering, through the Defense Training Program, where he studied surveying and topographic mapping.
He was employed as a mechanical engineer for many years; first at General Electric and then Hamilton Standard, having retired in 1982.
Bill was an avid gardener and enjoyed bird watching. He also played the guitar and enjoyed all types of music, especially Finnish and Folk music. He, accompanied by Marianne Cygnel of Finland on the accordion, loved to entertain at the St. Paul Lutheran Church summer fair as well as various nursing homes in the area.
He is survived by a daughter, Christine Natti and her companion, Harry Ahman of Feeding Hills, MA, four sons, Eric and his wife, Ellen Natti of Davis, CA, Carl Natti and his companion, Flossie LeMaster, Mark and his wife, Patricia (Williams) Natti, Philip and his wife, Candace (Ahonen) Natti all of Gloucester, a brother and three sisters-in-law, Theodore and Betty Natti of Concord, NH, and Lee Natti of Gloucester and Judy Armstrong of OR, nine grandchildren, Jason, husband of Nicole (LaPorte) Natti, Ashley Natti, Keith, husband of Jessica (Roberts) Natti, Chad Natti, Bradley Natti, Aaron Natti, Lacey Natti, Alexander Natti and Emily Natti, a great-grandson, Gavin Natti and many nieces and nephews.
His funeral service will be held on Saturday morning in the St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1123 Washington Street at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. There are no visiting hours. Interment will be held privately in the Seaside Cemetery, Lanesville. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1123 Washington St., Gloucester, MA 01930 or the VNA Care Network & Hospice, 5 Federal St., Danvers, MA 01923.
