Charles Edward Bryant, Sr., 82, Clarksville, died Monday, August 24, 2009, at Fieldstone Place Retirement Community. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Madison Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Gordon Meadors and Rev. Matt Kelley officiating. Burial will be in Bethlehem United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and from 9 a.m. until the hour of the service Saturday at the church. Neal-Tarpley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. He was born February 13, 1927 in Montgomery County. He was the son of the late Blair Leonard Bryant and Beulah Francis Todd Wesler. He was the beloved nephew of the late Mr. and Mrs. K.C. Davis. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Lisenbee Bryant. Mr. Bryant was a WWII US Army Veteran serving in Italy with the 101st MP Battallon. He retired from the US Post Office after serving as a rural route carrier for seventeen years and superintendent of postal operations of Clarksville for twenty five years. He was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church where he served as chairman and treasurer of the Administrative Board, chairman of the cemetery committee and member of the choir. He was a member of the Clarksville Civitan Club. He attended Bethlehem School and Clarksville High School. Following his retirement he achieved his goal of graduating from APSU in 1992. Mr. Bryant was the author of "Ramblings of a Tennessee Boy." He enjoyed farming and raising Polled Hereford cattle. Survivors include sons, Charles Bryant, Jr. (Nancy), Collierville; and Kurt Bryant (Cindy), Memphis, daughters, Anna Murray (Barry), Clarksville; and Miriam Winters (Jimmy), Clarksville; fifteen grandchildren: Elizabeth, William, Paul, Catherine, Carrye Beth, Charlie III, Samuel, John, Louisa, Blair, Lauren, Andrew, Henry, Grant, and Tracie; and two great-grandchildren, Josiah and Clayton. Grandsons and sons-in-law will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the loving caregivers and staff of Fieldstone Retirement Community.
