Obituary

Matthew Daniel Fenton, Jr., 74, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Sunday, August 23, 2009, at the Irwin County Hospital in Ocilla, Georgia.

Funeral services will be held at 7:00 P.M., Tuesday evening at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald with Rev. David Reaves officiating. His brother-in-law, Senator Charles Scott will give the eulogy.

Mr. Fenton was born August 29, 1934 in Washington, D.C. to the late Matthew D. and Margaret Whaley Fenton. He moved to Fitzgerald in 1995 from Key Largo, FL. Mr. Fenton was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, where he served on the USS Ticonderoga in the Mediterranean. After serving in the Navy, He attended the University of Maryland. He served as a police officer for Montgomery County in Maryland, owned and operated Power Electric Company in Rockville, MD and was a master electrician. Mr. Fenton was a former resident of Orlando, Fl and Wyoming. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Fitzgerald.

He is survived by his children: Delmar J. Fenton of Mt. Airy, MD, William Robert Fenton of Fitzgerald, Kelly Ann Walker of Kingsland, Matthew D. Fenton, III of Trophy Club, TX and Allison M. Fenton of Kingsland; 4 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild; sister: Elaine Fenton Scott of Casper, WY. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Jenkins Fenton and a son, James D. Fenton.
