Phyllis (Mahoney) Winters Riel, 79, most recently of Litchfield, NH and formerly of Chester, NH and Lowell, MA, passed away Sunday. Phyllis was born March 31, 1930 in Newport, NH, the daughter of Warren and Hazel Harvey. She graduated from Newport High School in 1948 and got married soon thereafter. She then went to work at New England Telephone Company and Tewksbury (Mass.) State Hospital before embarking on a 30-year career at Raytheon Service Co. Phyllis loved to garden, read and write stories and enjoyed frequent trips to the ocean and the lake with her family. She loved animals, especially her dog Madison.
Phyllis had fond memories of participating in the Spindle City Pigeon Club of Lowell, MA with her husband Bert Winters and leaves many great friends at both the Chester Senior Center and the Goffstown Lions Club. In her later years she made many friends at Pleasant Valley Nursing Center in Derry. She was also an active participant at Eliot Presbyterian Church in Lowell, MA. Most of all, she will be remembered as a loving and dedicated mother, grandmother and great grandmother who most enjoyed the time she spent with those closest to her.
Phyllis was predeceased by her parents; and her husbands, William Mahoney, Charles (Bert) Winters and Maurice (Mike) Riel; she is survived by her sons, William Mahoney of Denver, CO; Richard Mahoney and his wife Landra of Hudson, NH; John Winters and his wife Judy of Alexandria, VA; her daughter Mary (Mahoney) Streeter and her husband Phillip of Litchfield; an honorary daughter Linda Paton of Derry, NH; as well as 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Calling hours were held on Saturday, August 29th from 12 - 2pm at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry, NH. Funeral services followed at 2:00pm in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Phyllis’ name can be made to East Derry Extended Day Program Scholarship Fund, 20 Dubeau Drive, Derry, NH 03038.
