WINDHAM, NH – Barbara A. (Doherty) Whelan 72 of Windham, NH died peacefully on Friday August 21, 2009 at her home with her family at her side.
Born in Boston, MA, daughter of James and Mary (McGrath) Doherty, she was a graduate of Malden High School with the Class of 1955. A homemaker caring for her family, she enjoyed sports softball, volleyball, and bowling. She was also a member of the D.A.V. , at large Ladies Auxiliary Post # 25 in Salem, NH.
She leaves her husband of 49 years, Richard Whelan of Windham, NH and is survived by her children, Richard Whelan, Jr., and his wife Holly Heinlein of Manchester, NH, Kathleen M. Young and her husband Peter J. of Derry, NH, John J. Whelan and his wife Cheryl Ann of Raleigh, NC, Mary C. Marcangelo and her husband Steven of Londonderry, NH and Christine A. Whelan of Topsfield, MA.
Grandchildren Kirk R. Whelan, Julie E. and Jordon Young, Erin Whelan, Thomas J. Whelan and Jessica K. Latsha.

Barbara was pre-deceased by her son Thomas J. and her daughter Mary C. and also her brothers James and Robert Doherty.
ARRANGEMENTS: Family and friends may call on Tuesday from 4:00p.m. – 8:00p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00a.m. at St. Matthew’s Church 2 Searles Road, Windham, NH. Burial will follow in the Cemetery on the Hill also on Windham, NH.
