William P. Rooney, age 64, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 19th, 2009 at his home in Tewksbury after a brief illness surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Claire S. (Fournier) Rooney.
He was born in Carlinville, Illinois on Sept. 12, 1944, a son of the late Martin J. and Mary E. (Lee) Rooney. William was a longtime resident of Tewksbury and U.S. Navy Veteran.
Prior to his retirement in January, he was employed with MacLellan Concrete Company in Lowell for 27 years. William was a member of the S.L.B.M.C. Club and enjoyed fishing and camping. He also loved helping those in need, but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Besides his wife Claire, he is survived by his children, Mary L. Rooney of Nashua, Lisa M. Hir and her husband L. Stephan of Hudson, NH, William T. Rooney and Dorothy A. Camley and her husband Kenneth, all of E. Hardwick, VT, Cheryl L. Atwood and her husband Eugene of Hardwick, VT, and Charlotte Copley of Sevierville, TN; a brother, Martin T. Rooney and his wife Cheryl of Gobles, MI; two sisters, Mary E. Rooney and his twin sister Sheila L. Willhoite, all of Gainsville, FL; a brother-in-law, Richard A. Fournier and his wife Theresa of Plant City, FL; a sister-in-law, Jacqueline J. Eno of Dracut: also 16 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Relatives and friends may call at the M. R. LAURIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 295 Pawtucket St., Lowell, on Sunday, Aug. 23, from 2 to 5pm. A prayer service will follow in the Funeral Home at 5 o'clock. Interment will be private.
