Dorothy Mae (Cole) Knowlton, 89, passed away on Sat., Aug. 15, 2009 at Blueberry Hill Healthcare nursing facility. Dorothy would have celebrated her 90th birthday in October. She was the wife of the late Charles L. Knowlton.
Born in Beverly on Oct. 16, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Bert L. Cole and Wilhelmina (Dunning) (Cole) Jones. Dorothy was a lifelong resident of Beverly and a graduate of Beverly High School. After raising her family she worked as a food service worker for the City of Beverly, where she was employed for 25 years at the high school. She was a member of the Holy Trinity United Methodist Church in Danvers. Dorothy enjoyed knitting and crocheting and also dressing dolls, for which she won awards. She was an avid bingo player.
She is survived by her son and two daughters, Loren Knowlton of Fla., Shirley and her husband Charles Theriault of Beverly and Sharon Moore of Hamilton; four grandchildren, Laureen Moore Crosbie, Jason Moore, Steven Theriault and Kristen Cerullo; ten great grandchildren, Jenna, Jacob, Cooper, Madison, Phillip, Daniel, Thomas, Nickolas, Jordan and Bethany, a great-great grandson Devhone, and her niece and four nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Bert Cole and his wife Lucy, her step-father Frank Jones, and her grandson Scott Theriault.
A Funeral Service will be held Fri., Aug. 21, 2009 at 10AM in the Holy Trinity United Methodist Church, 16 Sylvan St., Danvers. Burial will follow at No. Beverly Cemetery. Vst. Hrs. are Thurs. from 3PM-7PM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Dorothy’s name to Holy Trinity United Methodist Church, c/o the Music Fund, 16 Sylvan St., Danvers, MA 01923.
