OBITUARY

Fitchburg
Edward R. Guenther, 96 of Fitchburg died Sunday August 16, at Keystone
Center in Leominster.
Eddie was the husband of the Late Esther (Hertrich) Guenther who died in
2000. The were married for 57 years.
Edward was born in Fitchburg May 12, 1913, the so of the late Paul T. and
Anna (Haake) Guenther. He was predeceased by 5 brothers, Arthur,
William, Emil, Paul and Walter and 6 sisters, Irma Simon, Clara Johnson,
Rose Hoellrich, Anne Wisniewski, Frieda Miller and Lillian Casey. He is
survived by many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and grand
nephews.
Eddie graduated from Fitchburg High School in 1931. He was a lockfitter at
Independent Lock Co. for 12 years and then became a metallurgical
Thechnician at Simonds Saw and Steel Co., retiring in 1978. During high
school, Edward became an avid sports fan. He was a loyal and faithful fan
of Fitchburg High School varsity basketball and football for many years
and was awarded a citation of February 22, 2000 for his continued
attendance and support of High School varsity basketball.
Edward was a World War ll veteran of the U.S.Navy. He saw action with the
patrol torpedo boat (PT109) in the guadalcanal area of the South Pacific.
He served on PT109 just before President Kennedy took command. His
Navy training in electronics spearheaded a hobby of fixing TV's and radios
after the war.
He was a member of the First Parish Church in Fitchburg, along with his
wife Esther. He was a former member of the Fitchburg Turners (Turner
Hall) and an honorary member of Turnverein. He was a 50 year member of
Charles W. Moore Lodge of Masons and a member of Simonds Recreation
and Simonds Veterans Organization.
"Uncle Eddie" as he was affectionately known by his many nieces and
nephews will be greatly missed.
A funeral service with military honors for Edward will be held on Saturday,
August 22, at 12:30 P.M. in the Bosk Funeral Home 85 Blossom St. A
visitation will be from 11 A.M till the time of the service. Burial will follow in
Forest Hill Cemetery. Flowers may be sent or contributions made in his
name to the Crocker Field Restoration Fund. c/o F.H.S. Athletic Dept. 140 Arn Howe Road, Fitchburg, Ma.01420 A Masonic service will be
held on Saturday at 12 P.M.
