Delia Kearns, a Winchester resident, passed away on Saturday August 15th, 2009, peacefully at her home surrounded by her family. She was 99 years of age. She was born in Belclare, County Galway, Ireland and was one of nine children born to the late John and Julia Murphy. She came to the United States in 1928.
On August 15, 1937, she married her beloved husband Thomas. They made their home in Winchester, raising five daughters. A humble and gentle woman, Delia devoted herself to and enjoyed spending all of her time with her family. In her later years, she cherished visits from her children and grandchildren.
Delia is lovingly survived by her five daughters; Mary T. and her husband David Barrett of Stow, Irene Regan of Winchester, Janet K. O’Leary and her late husband William of Winchester, Josephine A. King and her husband Daniel of Sudbury and Kathleen E. Owen and her husband Robert of Reading, ten grandchildren; Tom, Barbara, Dan, Jan, Bobby, Dave, Debbie, Dianne, Paul and Michael; and by six great grandchildren. She was also the much loved aunt of many nieces and nephews. Relatives & friends are invited to attend her funeral from the Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St., Winchester on Wednesday August 19th at 9 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated in St. Mary’s Church in Winchester at 10 AM. Services will conclude with interment in Calvary Cemetery in Winchester. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday August 18th from 4-8 PM.
