New Bedford- Maria (Pacheco)"Also Known Alfaiate" Amaral age 91 died Friday August 14, 2009 at New Bedford Health Care Center after Declining Health. Maria was the wife of the late Jose Cabral Amaral who died in 2007, Survivors include her children Maria A. DeMelo and her husband Jose Moniz, Mabelia Correia and her late husband Jose Arlindo, Normanda Cabral and her husband Donald, Jose Francisco Dias and his wife Eulalia, all of New Bedford, and Alda M. Botelho and her husband Tony of Dartmouth, sisters Isaltina Duarte Melo and Armenia Duarte Melo both of Salga, brother Saul David Melo of Salga. Mrs Amaral is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Isaura Duarte Melo, Manuel David DeMelo, and Jose David DeMelo.
Mrs. Amaral was the daughter of the late Maria (Pacheco) and David Duarte Melo. She was born in Salga St. Michael, Azores and moved to New Bedford in 1975. She worked as a stitcher at Maidwell Clothing until Retiring.
Mrs. Amaral’s Funeral will be from the Perry Funeral Home 111 Dartmouth St. on Wednesday at 8 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9 A.M. Interment will follow at St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 6-9 P.M.
