John L. Nolan, III, 68

John L.”Jack” Nolan, III, 68, of Mansfield died on Saturday August 15, 2009 at the Cedar Hill Healthcare in Randolph. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary Ellen Sweet who passed away on March 8, 2007 and was the former husband of the late Judith A. (Coakley) Nolan who passed away on June 22, 2004.
Born in Boston, MA on May 17, 1941 he was a son of the late John L., Jr. and Mary J. (Spear) Nolan.
His family resided in Lowell where he spent his younger childhood growing up. At age 14 they moved to South Boston where he continued his education and was a 1958 graduate of Gate of Heaven High School. Jack furthered his studies at Boston State College where he graduated in 1962 with a degree in education and later received his masters of education degree at Bridgewater State College.
A resident of Mansfield for the past 43 years, Mr. Nolan was a retired school teacher having taught in the Foxboro school system for 39 years prior to retiring.
Jack was an avid sports fan and enjoyed sharing his love of sports by serving as a football coach and basketball referee for many years. He coached football for several years at Foxboro High School and as a basketball referee he was a member of the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials and was also a member and past president of the Southeastern Massachusetts Football Association.
An active communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield, Mr. Nolan served as a former church lector and enjoyed volunteering as a former Boy Scout leader of troop 14. Jack was also a member of the George C. Shields Knights of Columbus in Mansfield.
Jack was a devoted father and loved the wonderful times spent with his children and grandchildren. His other hobbies included collecting model trains.
He is survived by his loving children Jacqueline A. Lee and her husband Lawrence of Mansfield, Sean P. Nolan and his wife Karen of North Scituate, Rhode Island and Mary Jane O’Regan and her husband Joseph of Westford. He was the dear brother of Mary Lou (Nolan) Roman of Weymouth and Daniel G. Nolan and his wife Linda of Plymouth and is also survived by his cherished 11 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Wednesday August 19th at 8:00 A.M. from the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield followed by a mass of Christian burial celebrated at 9:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will be held privately at a later date.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday August 18th from 5-8 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, Jack’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509 New York, NY 10018.
