Arthur William Sebastian Jr., age 93, of 20 Academy Lane, Academy Pointe, Mystic, died Wednesday mroning at Mary Elizabeth Nursing Center where he had been a resident since May 30th.
Arthur was born in Mystic on March 22, 1910 one of eleven children to Arthur and Betty (Roberts) Sebastian. Raised in Mystic he attended local schools and was one of the oldest surviving students of the former Bulely School in New London.
After receiving his education, he served in the US Army from 1941-1945 serving as a Master Sergeant in the 366th Port Battalion.
He later enjoyed a long distinguished career on Wall Street in New York, retiring from Loeb Roads Brokerage Firm after 25 years.
A longtime former resident of New York City, Arthur was a member of the Riverside Church in Manhattan. He returned to Mystic in recent years to be closer to his family.
Arthur is survived by his siblings, Howard Sebastian and Idabelle Jordan, both of Old Mystic, Lillian Sebastian of Mystic, Marjorie Colbert of Ledyard, and Dorothy Hardy of Mt. Vernon, NY, and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Warren, James, Benjamin, and Julia Sebastian and Lillie Hawkins.
The family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Tuesday from 10-11:45am followed by a service at 12noon. Burial will follow with military honors in the family plot at Elm Grove Cemetery.
