Obituary

Mrs. Marie C. Spinale, age 53 of Medford died Monday in the Sawtelle Hospice House in Reading. She was the wife of Richard Spinale with whom she shared more than 26 years of marriage.
Mrs. Spinale was born in Somerville, the daughter of Julius Bortone of Somerville and the late Theresa (DiGregorio) Bortone. She is a graduate of Somerville High School, class of 1974. She also attended Salem State College. She worked as a Bookkeeper, employed by a Pharmaceutical sales firm. She was a friendly and sociable woman with a colorful personality. Known for her keen sense of humor, she enjoyed taking long walks and traveling, particularly to Aruba. She loved spending time with her husband and children. In 2008 Mrs. Spinale founded and organized “S-A-O-C” (Sisters against Ovarian Cancer) and has been providing leadership in it’s progress. She spread the word and was instrumental in raising funds to fight this dreaded disease. She organized a major fundraiser that benefited the Beth Israel Hospital, Cancer Research Center. She is survived by a daughter Christina and a son Michael Spinale of Medford, two sisters: Carol Covell of North Reading, Susan Morais and her husband Anthony of Arlington, two brothers: Edward Bortone and his wife Maryann of Wilmington and Robert Bortone of Guam. Daughter in law of Grace Spinale of Medford.
Friends may call Thursday from 4 thru 8 at Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Clement Church, 71 Warner Street, Medford, Friday at 10:00 am. Burial will be follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
