Obituary

ANDOVER — Robert T. King, 77, longtime resident of Andover, passed away at Lahey Clinic in Burlington on Sunday, August 9. Born in Boston in 1932, he was son of the late Russell and Mary (Cahill) King. He grew up in Newton, earning a bachelor’s degree from Boston College in 1954 a master’s in 1955. He served as a first lieutenant in the US Army from 1955-57. For the next 13 years, he worked as an electrical engineer at Raytheon. In 1970, he made the switch to education, teaching chemistry and physics at Andover High School for the next 36 years, where he also served stints as a trainer for football, assistant hockey coach, drama coach and senior class advisor. In 1997, he retired as head of the science department, then becoming active with the St. Vincent DePaul Society at his parish, St. Augustine in Andover.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Patricia (Thalheimer); three daughters and sons-in-law, Martha and Philip Giguere of Andover, Juli and Robert Simmons of Haverhill, and Maura and Mark Scully of Walpole; and five grandchildren, Danielle, Philip and Victoria Giguere of Andover, and John and Anna Scully of Walpole.

Visiting hours were held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 12, at St. Augustine Church in Andover. A mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 10 AM on Thursday, August 13, also at St. Augustine Church, with interment following at Spring Grove Cemetery in Andover. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vincent DePaul Society, St. Augustine Parish, 43 Essex Street, Andover, MA, 01810.
