Obituary

CLEARWATER FL___William Kalinowski, 85, of Clearwater, died Saturday, August 1, 2009.

He leaves two sons, Joseph K. Kalen of Bristol, Rhode Island, and Mark S. Kalen and his wife Kim, the parents of his three grandchildren, Nicholas, Ryan, and Celia all of Hopkinton, MA. William was predeceased by brothers Eddie, Andrew, Johnny and sisters, Helen, Shirley, Jennie, and Sophie. He was born in Auburn, MA., son of Andrew and Sophie (Karpinski) Kalinowski.

Mr. Kalinowski worked as a tool maker prior to induction to the U.S. Army during World War II. He served from 1943 through 1946 as a radio operator, qualified as a rifle sharpshooter and received decorations including The Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, and American Theater Campaign Ribbon.

William graduated from the University of Massachusetts, class of 1951 then went on to teach for many years serving as Head of the Science Department in Poughkeepsie, NY. He loved to travel including ocean cruises, and annually visited family and friends in Poland. He spoke and wrote fluent Polish and was very proud of his heritage.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, August 13 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the HENRY-DIRSA FUNERAL HOME, 33 Ward Street, Worcester, MA. The memorial service will be held on Friday, August 14, 2009 from the funeral home with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward Street, Worcester. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester.
