Helen Theresa Mooney, 73, of 134 Spring Valley Road, Mystic, died Monday at her home.
Mrs. Mooney was born August 20, 1929 in Bangor, ME the daughter of Edith and John T. Quinn. Raised in Bangor, she attended local schools and was a 1947 graduate of St. John the Baptist High School. She was also a 1951 graduate of the University of Maine majoring in Spanish and Physical Education.
She married John T. Mooney Sr. on June 30, 1952 at St. John’s Church, Bangor. Mr. Mooney died February 11, 1998.
Mrs. Mooney is survived by her 3 daughters, Ann Sortor of Clovis, CA., Ellen Mooney of Groton, Kathy Bailey of Higganum; 4 sons, John Mooney Jr. of Sterling, MA., Michael Mooney of Glastonbury, Joseph Mooney of Waterford, and Peter Mooney of Westerly, 2 brothers, Robert and William Quinn both of Bangor, a sister, Mary Scribner of St. Petersburg, Fla; 14 grandchildren, Shannon, Brian and Taryn Sortor; Erin, Caitlin and Kevin Bailey; Jacqueline, John, Michaela, Shannon, Sean, Nicole, Jeannette and Christopher Mooney; and a great-granddaughter, Addison Rotan.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary Mother of the Redeemer Church, 69 Groton Long Pt. Road, Groton on Friday at 11am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial is private. There are no visiting hours.
