Obituary

PEABODY - Alexander Karpowicz, 90, of Peabody, formerly of Salem, died Wednesday morning, August 5, 2009 at the Renaissance Gardens at Brooksby Village following a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Beatrice (Bourque) Karpowicz. A resident of Brooksby Village, Peabody for the past 7 years, Mr. Karpowicz previously resided in Salem for over 55 years.

Born and raised in the Hyde Park section of Boston, he was the son of the late Alexander and Stanislawa (Maliskewski) Karpowicz.

An Army veteran of WWII, Mr. Karpowicz served as a medium artillery gun crewman and attained the rank of PFC.

Prior to his retirement in 1981, he was employed for over 30 years with GTE Sylvania at the Loring Avenue, Salem plant and was a member of the GTE Sylvania Quarter Century Club.

Mr. Karpowicz is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Catherine Karpowicz of Peabody, a granddaughter, Allison Karpowicz of Peabody and three nieces. He was predeceased by a sister, Lorraine Dudevich.

His funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, August 10, 2009 at 11 am at the Brooksby Village Chapel, off Route 114 in Peabody. Visiting hours are Sunday, 4 to 7 pm at the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend.
