Obituary

Glenn Dunlap, 85, departed from this life on August 3, 2009. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2009 at Platt’s Funeral Home Chapel on North Belair Road, with Dr. Gordon Robinson officiating .Interment will follow at Bellevue Memorial Gardens with full military honors.

Glenn is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lois Jean Gladd Dunlap and their four daughters Glenda Robinson (Ronald), Brenda Remkus (fiancé’ Paul Lester), Debra Hatcher (Billy), and Joy Batten (Johnny); Glenn also had 14 grandchildren: Ashley, Erin, Lori, Layne, Paden, Haley, Joanna, Sarah, Lauren, Leah, Lindsey, James, Lee, and Erin; and 9 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harold Dunlap, Fred Dunlap, and a sister Leah Alice Johnson. He is preceded in death by his parents Thomas Stanton Dunlap and Veda Heaton Dunlap; two brothers, Robert (Bob) Dunlap, Warren Dunlap, a sister, Betty Jean Dunlap, and a special brother-in-law, Leon Johnson.

Glenn was born and raised in Tahlequah, Oklahoma where he graduated from Bagley High School and attended Northeastern State University. He joined the Army in 1942 and served in the Pacific theater as a paratrooper during World War II. His military career took him to the Philippines, Japan, Germany, and Korea. He and his family settled in Augusta in 1948. Following his military service of 22 years, Glenn opened his own business, the King’s Crown Barber Shop in Martinez, where he worked for 35 years. Glenn was of the Baptist faith. He had a love for people and he had many friends throughout the CSRA.

Glenn was also an avid golfer. In addition to being an excellent golfer himself, he did much to mentor and encourage others to learn the game of golf. He also helped to promote golf in the community through organizations like First Tee and he assisted various high school golf teams.

Glenn was a man of a sweet and gentle nature who loved his family and sacrificed much to provide for them for many years. We rejoice that he is now face to face with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to First Tee of Augusta, 3165 Damascus Road, Augusta, GA 30909.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, August 7, 2009 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
