Las Vegas, NV: Mary June (Ames) Wardell, 81 of Las Vegas, Nevada passed away on June 15, 2009 at the Solari Hospice Care, in Las Vegas, after complications from a previous surgery with family by her side.
Born in Beverly, “June”, as she was known by family and friends, was the daughter of the late Herbert V. and Bridget Beatrice (Rogers) Ames. She was raised and educated in Beverly and was a graduate of St. Mary’s School, class of 1946. After graduation, June worked for the United Shoe Machinery Corp, New England Telephone Company, Raytheon, and spent some time as a nanny in Memphis. June is the former wife of the late William Flynn.
June relocated to Las Vegas in the 1960’s where she met and married the love of her life, Verle J. Wardell. June and Verle, a Vegas taxi driver, enjoyed entertaining visiting family and friends, dining out, going “honky-tonking”, as well as their trips to Wyoming and the East Coast to visit with family and friends. After Verle’s death in 1986, June took a great interest and pleasure in tracing her family’s geneology, which took her to Nova Scotia, Ireland and Scotland, to name a few.
June was predeceased by four brothers, Chancey, Donald, Warren, and Malcolm Ames.
June is survived by many nieces and nephews, cousins and lifelong friends living throughout the country. June also leaves behind her two beloved cats, Butterfly and Finnelli. June’s number one priority in life was always family and friends, and her kind heart and generosity will be greatly missed.
Her funeral service will be held on Friday, August 14th in the St. Mary’s Cemetery, Brimbal Ave., B everly at 1:30 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
