Obituary

Catherine R. (Leach) Ayer, 90 of Bellingham and formerly of Franklin died August 3 in Caritas Norwood Hospital. She was the wife of the late George Ayer who died in 1986.
Born in Boston, April 28, 1919, the daughter of the late Joseph and Nora (Connors) Leach, Mrs. Ayer was raised in Boston and had lived in Franklin from 1964 until moving to Bellingham in May.
Mrs. Ayer had been a secretary in the Adjutant General’s Office of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for many years before retiring.
Mrs. Ayer enjoyed bowling, reading and painting with watercolors.
She is survived by her sons, Michael Ayer and his wife, Margaret of Kingston and her son John Ayer and his wife, Debra of Bellingham.
She was the mother of the late Catherine Ayer.
Mrs. Ayer was the sister of the late Helen Murphy, Mae Gaffney, Dorothy Higgins and William and John Leach.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Katie Ayer, Kerry Ayer, Tracie Sarette and Meghan Ayer and her great-granddaughter, Annalise Sarette.
Mrs. Ayer’s funeral and burial at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne will be private.
Calling hours will be on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. in the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin, 131 Main St. in Franklin.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to the charity of one’s choice.
