Obituary

Harry Tomlinson, 87, of New Bedford died Sunday August 2, 2009 at Alden Court Nursing Home. He was the husband of the late Barbara L. (Cavanaugh) Tomlinson.

Born in Blackburn, Lancashire, England, the son of the late Henry and Alice (Hindle) Tomlinson, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.

He was a former member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church.

Mr. Tomlinson was formerly employed as a school custodian for the New Bedford Public School Department until his retirement.

He played bass in various area bands.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in Tinian, Saipan, and Japan.

Survivors include his daughter, Karen Surprenant of Rochester; his daughter-in-law, Rebekah Tomlinson of Acushnet; and four granddaughters, Kelli and Katelyn Tomlinson, and Kasey and Lindsey Surprenant.

He was the father of the late David M. Tomlinson and the brother of the late Ethel Leonard.

His Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 11 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Visitation will be on Wednesday morning from 10-11 AM prior to the service.
