Thomas A. Joseph of New Bedford, died on Saturday August 1, 2009, his 97th birthday, at Sacred Heart Home. He was the husband of the late Marguerite T. (Luby) Joseph.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Harry and Eva (Jabour) Joseph, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
He was a communicant of Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish.
Mr. Joseph was the former proprietor of Knowles Loom Reed Works and later worked for the City of New Bedford Traffic Department.
He was a graduate of Holy Family High School, where he was an outstanding athlete in baseball and basketball. He was a member of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick and the Livesey Club of Fairhaven, and had also been a member of the Y.M.C.A. for 85 years. He was an avid sports fan.
Survivors include a son, Thomas M. Joseph and his wife Susan of Fairhaven; two grandchildren, Matthew and Kate Joseph; and two nieces, Catherine Manning Konicki and her husband Robert, and Sheila Luby.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 9 AM in Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Monday from 4-7 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Community Nurse & Hospice Care, P.O.
