Richard D. Armstrong, 79, of Londonderry, NH, died Wednesday, July 29, 2009 in his home. Mr. Armstrong was born in Greenfield, MA on June 22, 1930, son of the late Kenneth O. and Jeanette (Normandy) Armstrong. He was a resident of Londonderry since 1985, formerly living in Reading, MA. Mr. Armstrong had been a member of the Army National Guard. He retired as operations manager after 27 years with Sweetheart Plastics in Wilmington, MA. He loved spending time with his family, enjoyed playing tennis and taking candid photos.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nancy Lou Armstrong of Londonderry; his son, Richard O. Armstrong of Chelmsford, MA; his daughter, Teri Ann Gouveia and her husband Kevin of Chelmsford, MA; son-in-law, Dr. Robert J. Verbiar of West Chester, PA; four granddaughters, Shauna Riley, Kelly Armstrong, Jeannette Verbiar, and Julia Verbiar; his sister, Barbara Gauthier and her husband Robert of Monterey, MA; his sisters-in-law, Diane E. Martin and her husband Fred of Wakefield, MA, and Marilyn Kelly of Montague, MA; his brother-in-law, Ronald Kelly and wife Peggy of Virginia Beach, VA; as well as 12 nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter Debra Lou Verbiar in 1998.
Calling hours were held on Sunday, August 2nd from 3 - 7pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry. A memorial service was held on Monday at 12:00pm in the Londonderry Presbyterian Church, 126 Pillsbury Rd., Londonderry. Private burial will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Manchester VNA & Hospice, 33 South Commercial St., Suite 401, Manchester, NH 03104-2911 or to the Debra Lou Verbiar Education Fund, C/O Westminster Presbyterian, 10 W.
