Leonard J. Nelson, Sr., age 67, passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2009 in Lowell after a long illness. He was the beloved husband of Eleanor (Spadea) Nelson.
He was born in Lowell on Dec. 17, 1941, the son of the late Edward and Elizabeth (Gordon) Nelson. Leonard resided in Lowell and attended Lowell schools.
Prior to his illness, he was employed with Coca Cola in Lowell and Salem, NH for 30 years. Leonard was a fan of all the New England sports teams, especially the Red Sox. He was also a big fan of Elvis Presley having visited Graceland three times and enjoyed collecting Elvis and Coca Cola memorabilia. He loved spending time with his family, especially his dog, Spanky Eugene Nelson.
Besides his wife, Eleanor, he is survived by his children, Leonard J. Nelson, Jr. and his fiance Claudette Gagnon of Dracut, Stephen Nelson and his wife Lori of Pelham, Joanne Colon and her husband Ariel, Pamela Scanlon and her husband, Frank, and Kimberly Nelson, all of Lowell; seven grandchildren, Christopher and Anthony Colon, Richard Mignone Jr., Paige Scanlon, Nicole, Krystyna and Cody Nelson; a step granddaughter, Samantha Scanlon and a step great grandson, Aden Covington; a niece, Patricia Shirley of Lowell; also several cousins. He was the brother of the late Edward Nelson.
Relatives and friends may call at the M. R. LAURIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 295 Pawtucket St., Lowell on Thursday, July 30 from 4 to 8pm. Cremation will take place on Friday. Friends are again respectfully invited to attend a Prayer Service on Monday afternoon, Aug. 3 at 1 o'clock at the Chapel of St. Patrick Cemetery, Lowell.
