WORCESTER-John W. “Jack” O’Brien, 88, passed away Sunday, July 26.
His wife of 49 years, Mary Ellen (Riordan) O’Brien died in 1998. He leaves four sons, John W. of Worcester, Edward J. and his wife, Kathy of Worcester, Paul P. of Quincy and Michael S. O'Brien of Milan, Italy; one daughter, Margaret M. Fisher and her husband, Mark of Shrewsbury; three grandchildren, Kerry, Emily and Ryan and nieces and nephews.
He was born in Worcester the son of William E. and Mary (Moynihan) O’Brien. He graduated from St. John’s High School, Holy Cross College and received his master’s degree from Worcester State Teachers College. He was WW II Army Air Corp veteran. Mr. O’Brien was the principal at Greendale Elementary for many years before retiring. Previously, he taught at New Ludlow, Cambridge and Flagg St. schools where he also coached. He was a member of the Alhambra Council #88, Knights of Columbus, Greendale Retired Men’s Club, the Retired Massachusetts Teacher’s Association and the First Friday Club. He was an avid golfer.

The funeral will be Friday, July 31 from CALLAHAN & FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle St. with a Mass at 10:00 AM at Christ the King Church, 1052 Pleasant St. Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery.
