Obituary

Varvara “Vera” (Sauchuk) Anastasi, 92, died Friday, July 24, 2009 in Beverly Hospital following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Joseph A. Anastasi.
Born in Peabody on May 7, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Julian and Eudokia (Laurenchuk) Sauchuk. She was raised and educated in Danvers and was a graduate of Holten High School, Class of 1936.
A Beverly resident for over seventy years, Mrs. Anastasi began her working career at Sylvania in Danvers and then worked at Cheshire Novelty and Egg Crates in Beverly before working at Johnny Appleseed’s until her retirement in 1991. She was an active member of the Polish, Russian, Lithuanian, American Citizens Club in Danvers for many years and the Beverly Senior Citizens Club.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Rosalie Anastasi of Beverly, three grandchildren: Joseph, Michael, and Donna Marie; six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. She also leaves surviving siblings, William “Spud” Sauchuk of Danvers, Fenna “Fannie” Gadbois of Las Vegas, her sister-in-law Thelma (Panzero) Sauchuk of Beverly, her brother-in-law Horace “Babe” Anastasi of Danvers, and her dear friends Patricia and Lauren Colanto who were with her to the end. She was predeceased by her siblings Stephen, John, James, Michael, and Julian Sauchuk, Alice Sullivan, and Annie Munro.
Visiting hours will be Thursday, July 30, 2009 from 9-10:30AM in C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square, followed by a graveside service at 11AM in North Beverly Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mrs. Anastasi’s name to the Visiting Nurse’s Assoc., 8 Angle St., Gloucester, MA 01930 or Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Danvers, MA 01923.
