James William (Jay) Estes, Jr., 73, Clarksville, died Sunday, July 26, 2009, at Gateway Medical Center. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Neal-Tarpley Chapel with Brother Tom Lynch officiating. Burial will be in Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until the hour of the service Thursday at the funeral home. Neal-Tarpley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. He was born February 17, 1936 in Nashville, TN son of the late James William Estes, Sr. and Ruby Pearl Harrison Estes. Mr. Estes was retired from the US Army and Civil Service. He was an Elder of New Providence Church of Christ, a decorated VietNam veteran, a graduate of APSU, and a member of Queen City Masonic Lodge #761. He served one tour as a Civilian with the 101st in Iraq. Survivors include his wife, Carolin Estes; son, Kevin Estes (Alice), Nashville; daughter, Hope Gregory (Jeff), Hernando, MS; sister, Peggy Bannister, Old Hickory, TN; and five grandchildren, Darby, Jack, Nick, Noah, and Mary Jane. Pallbearers will be Kevin Estes, Edwin Norfleet, Jeff Gregory, Ron Burgess, Jimmy Smith and Robert Dickson. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of New Providence Church of Christ.
