WORCESTER-Mercine "Mary" (Karis) Kouvaros, 102 of 275 Pleasant Street died Friday, January 11th in Shrewsbury Nursing Home. Her husband Procopios “Peter” J. Kouvaros died in 1945. She leaves her son John B. Kouvaros of Shrewsbury, and 2 daughters Bertha Salem of Auburn and Mary Kopsiaftis of Waltham, 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
She was born in Mytilene, Greece the daughter of Vasili and Diane Karis and emigrated to Connecticut in 1916, later moving to Worcester. She was a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, it’s Seniors group and the Ladies Philoptochos Society. Mrs. Kouvaros loved crocheting.
The funeral will be Monday, January 14th from O’Connor brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue with a service at 10:00 AM in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday, January 13th from 4:00 until 7:00 PM in the funeral home.
