Obituary

Bernice Ann Tatum (Thissell), of Plymouth formerly of Harwichport, passed away on July 23rd at the Newfield House at the age of 101. Beloved wife of the late Rev. Horace O. Tatum, she is survived by her stepdaughter Sylvia Prouty of Windham, NH and her 2 stepgrandchildren Sandra Morrissy and Peter Prouty. She also leaves her nieces and nephews David Thissell and his wife Joan of Plymouth, Bernice Ann Tracy and her husband Ralph of Jacksonville, FL; Barbara Penney and her husband Russell of Cushing, ME; and Richard Thissell and his wife Sigrun of Friendship, ME; many great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. Aunt of the late Joan Robbins, Donald Thissell and Cynthia Moore. Bernice was born and grew up in Lawrence and graduated from Lawrence High School. She received her bachelors in science and her masters in education from Boston University. Bernice was an elementary school teacher in Warwick, Marshfield Hills and Quincy and her last 12 years of teaching she was a reading specialist for the elementary grades in Quincy. She married Rev. Horace Tatum in 1957 and they retired to Harwich Port in 1965. She has lived in Plymouth for the past 7 years and was a member of the Mass. Teachers Association. She was a member and very active in the First Baptist Church in Hyannis. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 29th at noon time at Vine Hills Cemetery in Plymouth. There are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the First Baptist Church, 486 Main St, Hyannis, MA 02601.
