Martinez, GA – Mrs. Martha Wong Lam, 81, passed away on July 22, 2009 at Select Specialty Hospital. A native Augustan, she was the daughter of Wong Woey Too and Wong Chan Shee. She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Y. Lam; two brothers: Bot Lee Wong and Jack Wong; and sister: Lula Wong.
She is survived by her seven children: Lawrence Lam (Young) of Portland, OR; Michael Lam (Debra) of Wallace, NC; Dennis Lam (Becky) of Martinez, GA; Lorie Johnson (Walt) of Belton, MO; Janet Lam (Chris) of Waynesboro, GA; Patricia Bussey (David) of Martinez, GA; and John Lam of Osprey, FL; nine grandchildren; older sister, Mamie Lee of Castro Valley, CA, and twin sister Molly Lew of Costa Mesa, CA.
Martha was a life long resident of Augusta, GA. At an early age her sisters and brothers helped their father and mother run a successful community store on Railroad Ave on the property now occupied by MCG. Upon her marriage, Martha and her husband Johnny opened their grocery and boarding house in Harrisburg. From there they moved the family of four children to South Augusta to open a hardware store. Martha was active in the Chinese community and was always a worker bee when the Arts in the Heart of Augusta was scheduled. Martha’s loving, giving and selfless nature will be missed by her family, her Garden Club and Women’s Club members as well as the many friends of the Chinese Benevolent Association.
The family wishes to thank all her friends and family for their concern and support during her illness.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, July 25, 2009 at Platts Belair Rd. Chapel with Dr. Greg DeLoach officiating. Burial will follow in Westover Memorial Park
Active pallbearers will be Mrs. Lam’s grandsons, Michael W Lam, Joshua Lam, Spencer Lam, Brian Lam, Stephen Lam, and Wesley Bussey. Honorary pallbearers will be The Kingston Garden Club and the Chinese Women’s Club.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, July 24, 2009 from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM.
