Obituary

TAUNTON - Merrill E. Fleck Sr., husband of Alice A. (Gasper) Fleck, died on July 22, 2009 at the Embassy House Nursing Center in Brockton.
He was 78.
Born in Taunton, he was the son of the late Bradford J. and Mildred (Ashley) Fleck.
Educated in Taunton schools, he later served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
He retired from the former Mt. Hope Silver Co. in 1965 after working for many years as a silver spinner.
Mr. Fleck was a past American Legion District Commander and a life member and past commander of the former American Legion Post 103, where he also served as bar manager and financial officer.
Active in Legion baseball, he was a past MA Legion Baseball League Commissioner.
A past commander and life member of the VFW Post 611, Mr. Fleck served on the committee instrumental in the placement of the Korean War Memorial on Church Green, dedicated in June of 1987.
Besides his wife, he leaves 4 sons, Donald Fleck and his wife Mary of Manomet, John and Robert Fleck, and Merrill Fleck Jr. and his wife Kim, all of Taunton; 4 daughters, Debra Ferreira, Claudine Fleck, her fiancé Michael McGuire, and Paulette Fleck, all of Taunton, and Jean Silva of Middletown, OH; a sister, Shirley Alvarnaz of Brandon, FL; 17 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also the brother of the late Alfred, Howard and Alan Fleck.
Graveside Services will be held at the MA National VA Cemetery, Bourne on Monday, July 27th at 1:45 p.m.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held at the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton, on Sunday, July 26th from 5 to 8 p.m.
