TEWKSBURY - Robert D. "Boston Bob" Young, age 71, a resident of Tewksbury since 1967, died Sunday, July 19, at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington, following a brief battle with lung cancer. He was the beloved husband of Jean (Taylor) Young, with whom he had celebrated a 50th wedding anniversary this past April 18th.
He was born in Boston a son of the late James and Kathleen (Harte) Young, and was raised in Boston. He attended the Boys Trade School in Boston.
During the Korean War, he served in the Army as a Military Policeman.
Prior to retirement, he worked at Hayes Instruments in Billerica, and Good Times in Somerville.
He enjoyed travel with his wife and family, and had also bowled in the North Reading leagues.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Karen Young of Oakland, CA, and Suzanne Young of San Diego, CA; two brothers and a sister-in-law, James and Jean (Owen) Young of Scituate, MA and William Young of Boston; was uncle to Elizabeth Hoyt and Jennifer Young; and was "Grampy" to five, Shelby, Samantha, and Tom Madore, and Samantha and Catherine Merritt.
His Funeral Service was held Thursday, July 23, in the funeral home. Burial followed at Tewksbury Cemetery. Memorials to the American Institute for Cancer Research, Dept. IHW1, 1759R Street NW, Washington, DC 20009, will be appreciated.
