Obituary

BEVERLY: Joseph D. Amore, Sr., 86, died peacefully Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at Beverly Hospital surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Virginia L. (Fisher) Amore with whom he shared sixty-three years of marriage.
Born in Lawrence on August 31, 1922, he was the son of the late Alfio and Barbara (Ragonese) Amore. He has resided in Beverly for the past sixty-five years. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he served in the 379th Infantry in the 95th division before being honorably discharged in 1946.
Joe was employed as a plasterer for the Boston Union #10 for fifty years before retiring in 1989. An avid traveler and sports fan, he especially enjoyed traveling to Italy, Ft. Myers, Florida, the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. He was a Past Exalted Ruler of the Beverly-Salem Elks Club #1309, a member of the Vittori-Rocci Post, Franco-American Club, Herman A. Spear Post #331, American Legion, Italian Community Center and the Patria e Lavoro Society. He valued above anything time with his family and enjoyed time with friends at his local social clubs.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Raymond Allen, Jr. of Beverly, two sons and a daughter-in-law, Alfred and Judy Amore of Rochester, NH and Joseph Amore, Jr. of Beverly, seven grandchildren, Alfred Amore, Jr., Tina Amore, Matthew Amore, Philip Amore, Kelly Allen, Lisa Allen, and Raymond Allen, III, all of Beverly, four great-grandchildren, a brother, Charles Amore of Beverly, a sister-in-law, Rita Amore of Beverly and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by a sister and brother-in law, Ida (Amore) and Dominic Menesale, a brother, Dominic "Doc" Amore, a sister-in-law, Catherine (Campbell) Amore, a daughter-in-law, Elizabeth "Jamie" Amore and granddaughter Kerri Amore.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday in the St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 253 Cabot St., Beverly at 11 a .m. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday in the Grondin Funeral Home, 376 Cabot Street, Beverly from 3 - 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to The Jimmy Fund, c/o Dana Farber Cancer Inst., 10 Brookline Place West, 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445 -7226. Interment will be held in St. Mary's Cemetery, Beverly.
