Bertha B. (Reckord) Nichols, 89, of Middleboro, formerly of Rockland, died Wednesday July 15th in the Nemasket Healthcare Center, after a period of failing health. She was the wife of the late Frederick R. Nichols and daughter of the late Gilbert and Lena (Jumpe) Reckord.
Bertha was born and brought up in Whitman and attended Whitman Schools.
She and her husband Fred ran the Nichol’s Donut Shop in Hingham for 13 years, then moving to New Hampshire and later back to Rockland.
She enjoyed gardening, crocheting and cooking for her family.
She is survived by her children; Jeffrey Nichols of Milford, NH, Frederick Nichols of Royal Oak MD, Richard Nichols of Bourbonnais, IL, Dennis Nichols of Kernersville, NC, Geraldine Nichols of Hot Springs AK, Judith Jackson of Middleboro and Susan Keith of Deerfield Beach, FL; grandmother of twenty-nine and great grandmother of fifty-eight, and many nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Donald Nichols and sister of the late Gilbert Reckord and Edith Skorohod.
Her services will be held Monday July 20 at 10 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman. Interment will follow in the Northville Cemetery, East Bridgewater. Visitation will be held on Sunday July 19th from 5-8 PM. Donations may be made in her name to the Hospice of Massachusetts 577 Main Street, Wareham, MA 02571
