Dorothy L. (Lopes) Ferreira, 79, of New Bedford died July 9, 2009 peacefully at St. Luke's Hospital.
She was the wife of the late Lionel Ferreira.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late John and Laura (Tavares) Lopes, she lived in New Bedford all of her life.
Mrs. Ferreira was a communicant of St. Lawrence Church.
She was formerly employed by Kerry Fashions, Brook Manufacturing, and Family Dental before retiring from Coastline Elderly Services.
Mrs. Ferreira was a former Girl Scout leader from Troop 57.
Survivors include a son, Dennis "Denny" Henriques and his wife Gini of East Freetown; a daughter, Leona Medeiros-Murphy and her husband Samuel Murphy of New Bedford; 7 grandchildren, Crystal-Lynn Medeiros, Maegan Laura Murphy, Raymond W. Medeiros, II, Rhonda-Lee Giossi, Dennis L. Henriques, Beckie-Jane Henriques and Jared J. Henriques; a great-granddaughter, Caia Rose Santos' her bestfriend of 70 years, Lourdy Houtman.
She was the mother of the late Laura V. Ekstrom.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, July 16th at 11 AM in St. Lawrence Church. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery.
