Doris (Souza) Kawa, 89, of New Bedford died July 7, 2009 at Sippican Healthcare Center. She was the wife of the late Chester Kawa.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Joseph G. and Alice (Barriteau) Souza, she lived here all of her life.
She was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church.
She was Past President of the Daughters of Isabella, Hyacinth Circle, Past President of Catholic Guild for the Blind, Past President of the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women District 1 New Bedford Area, and Past President of Our Lady of Fatima Ladies Guild.
Her family would like to thank the staff on Mayfair Unit at Sippican Healthcare Center for the excellent care that she received.
Survivors include 2 sons, Chester J. Kawa, Jr. of Dalton, GA and Kenneth E. Kawa and his wife Carol of Mattapoisett; a grandson, Kenneth E. Kawa, Jr. and his wife Kyle and a great-granddaughter, Justine Kawa.
She was sister of the late Beverly Soares and the mother-in-law of the late Nancy Kawa.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd., Route 6, Mattapoisett Monday, July 13th at 9 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Anthony's Church in Mattapoisett at 10 AM. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours Sunday, July 12th from 4-7 PM.
