Obituary

Worcester-Francis G. "Frank" Zinkevich 79 of 68 Blithewood Ave. a longtime Worcester County Deputy Sheriff, died Saturday July 26th in his home after being stricken ill there.

He was the husband of Rita M. (Jennette) Zinkevich who died in 1993. He leaves a daughter, Zorita "ZeZe" Habib of Worcester; two grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Ten brothers and sisters predeceased him.

Mr. zinkevich was born in Worcester a son of Cyprian and Vincenta (Rameika) Zinkevich and lived here all of his life. He was educated in Worcester Schools, and later served with the Navy in the Pacific Theatre of Operations during World War II. While serving in The Solomon Islands, Mr. Zinkevich was wounded in action as a Coxswain. Following World War II, he attended The New England Conservatory of Music. He sang under the stage name of "Frankie Sands" in area nightclubs during the 1950's. Mr. Zinkevich worked as an Iron Worker many years ago and later became a Worcester County Deputy Sheriff and worked in that capacity for more than fifty years and was working at the time of his death.

He was a longtime member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish and formerly had served as a Eucheristic Minister there. He was a member of The Lithuanian War Veterans Organization, the Southworks Post V.F.W., the Lithuanian Social Club, the Worcester County Deputy Sheriff's Association, and the Mass. Chiefs of Police Association.

The funeral will be held Wednesday July 30th, from Dirsa-Morin Funeral Home, 298 Grafton Street (www.worcesterfuneral.com), with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Lourdes Church 1290 Grafton Street Worcester. Burial will follow in Saint John's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are from 4to 8pm Tuesday July 29th. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in his memory to either Our Lady of Lourdes Church 1260 Grafton Street Worcester Mass. 01604 or Saint Casimir's Church Building Fund, 41 Providence Street Worcester Mass. 01604. or to Holy Trinity Eastern Orthodox Nursing and Rehabilitation Center 300 Barber Ave. Worcester Mass. 01606.
