Stoughton- Louise (Sylvia) Arruda, age 87 years, died Monday, July 6, 2009 at the Blue Hills Alzheimer’s Care Center. She was the wife of the late Albert Arruda. Mrs. Arruda was the mother of Patricia, wife of Richard J. Mello of New Bedford and Albert, husband of Cheryl Arruda of Anchorage, Alaska. Louise was the sister of Gilbert Sylvia of Dartmouth, Catherine Souza of New Bedford and the late John Sylvia. Mrs. Arruda is also survived by 2 grandchildren: Jason A. and Sara L. Mello both of New Bedford and a great-granddaughter Alexis Mello as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Arruda was a daughter of the late Frank Sylvia Jr. and Mary Filomena (Souza) Sylvia. She was born in New Bedford and lived in this area most of her life. Mrs. Arruda was a clerk typist at the Massachusetts Department of Transitional Assistance until her retirement.
Mrs. Arruda’s Funeral will be from the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. on Thursday at 9:30 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 5-7 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
