Obituary


WORCESTER__ Walter P. Wondolowski, 87, of Worcester died Saturday, July 4, 2009, on their 63rd wedding anniversary.
He leaves his wife, Helen V. (Kucko) Wondolowski, two sons, Walter J. Wondolowski and his wife, Ginny of Herndon, Virginia, and Robert J. Wondolowski and his wife, Liz of Uxbridge; a daughter, Susan M. Wondolowski and her husband, Robert von Heyn of Greenville, RI., two brothers, Stanley Wondolowski of Shrewsbury and Edward Wondolowski of Haines Falls, NY., four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Joseph Wondolowski and two sisters, Natalie Krzinowek and Wanda Domian. He was born in Worcester, a son of Teofil and Maryann (Wondolowska) Wondolowski and lived here all his life.
Mr. Wondolowski was a butcher/grocer and former owner of the Ecklund Square Market for many years before he retired in 1984. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and served as a Radioman First Class in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre including the Philippines. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School and attended the College of the Holy Cross. Walter was a member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church. He was also an active member of the Polish American Veterans of WWII and the St. Mary’s Booster Club. He was a ham radio operator (N1LST) and member of CMARA (Central Mass Amateur Radio Assoc). Besides spending time with his family, he enjoyed playing tennis and watching the Red Sox.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday, July 8, from HENRY - DIRSA FUNERAL HOME, 33 Ward St., with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward St. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours in the funeral home are Tuesday, July 7, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The Polish American Veterans of WWII will meet at 7:00 p.m. to conduct their ritual.
