Obituary

BEVERLY: Jean C. (Moroni) Thomas, 76, died Wednesday, July 1, 2009 in the Kaplan Family Hospice House surrounded by her family following a courageous battle with lung cancer. She was the wife of Robert F. Thomas.
Born in Beverly on June 25, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Eleanor I. (Birarelli) Moroni. She was a lifelong resident of Beverly and a graduate of Beverly High School class of 1951.
Jean was employed at the Beverly National Bank for thirty years before retiring as an auditor in 1993.
In addition to her husband of fifty-three years, she is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Joseph Shackleton of Beverly, a son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Christine Thomas of Boise, Idaho, her grandchildren, Justin and his wife, Kristen Bemis of Beverly and Jean’s precious first great-granddaughter, Hannah Jean due in early October; Erin Bemis-Thomas and her fiancé, Brian Bonsall of Charlotte, NC, Cassie and her husband, John Keough of Malden and Jessie and Nikki Shackleton both of Merrimac, a brother-in-law, David and his wife, Judy Thomas of Linden, VA and a lifelong friend, Joanne Marcos of Beverly and her grandpets, Tommy, Bertha, Ramona, Pablo and her loving dog, Molly.
Jean’s family would like to extend their special thanks to all the staff at the Oncology/Hematology Center at Beverly Hospital, Hospice of the North Shore and the Kaplan Family Hospice House as well as all her wonderful friends, including her Thursday morning ladies bowling league that supported her during her courageous battle.
Her funeral services will be held on Sunday in the Grondin Funeral Home, 376 Cabot Street, Beverly at 3 p.m. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 12 – 3 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Interment will be privately held in the North Beverly Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942 or to the Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
