Carolyn Dutton Ashworth

TEWKSBURY: Carolyn E. (Dutton) Ashworth, age 87, a longtime North Tewksbury resident and member of the First Baptist Church, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, June 28, 2009 at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

She was the wife of and is survived by Benjamin F. Ashworth, with whom she would have celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on August 31, 2009.

Born in Chelmsford on June 3, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Francis O. and Georgia (Libby) Dutton and was the step-daughter of the late Eva Dutton.

Mrs. Ashworth was raised in Chelmsford, attended Chelmsford schools and graduated from Chelmsford High School. Following graduation, she attended and later graduated from Boston University.
Mrs. Ashworth was employed as a teacher by the Tewksbury Public School System for more than 25 years until her retirement in 1985.

Carolyn was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Tewksbury, where she was a member of numerous organizations and committees within the church. In addition, she was a member of the Acacia Chapter # 80 Order of Eastern Star, the Lowell YMCA and a former member of Rainbow for Girls.
Mrs. Ashworth enjoyed spending the summer months in Ocean Park, Maine.
Carolyn lived a long and happy life full of faith and devoted herself to her husband, children, grandchildren and extended family members. She was loved by all and will be deeply missed.

In addition to her beloved husband, she is survived by four children, Gail Labuda and her husband Charles of Saugus, Benjamin Gary Ashworth, and David Ashworth and his wife Sharon all of Lowell and Arlene Miles and her husband Michael of Dracut; nine grandchildren, Alison Labuda, Carolyn (Labuda) Crary, Haley Ashworth, Dylan, Lee and Grace Ashworth, Christopher and Kara Miles and Michelle Beecher; two great grandchildren, Brandon and Holly Beecher.
Mrs. Ashworth was the sister of the late George Edwin Dutton and Ruth Dutton.

Calling hours Wednesday, July 1st, from 4-8 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Funeral service Thursday, July 2nd, at 10:30 a.m., at the First Baptist Church, 1500 Andover St., Rte. 133, Tewksbury. Interment to follow at the Edson Cemetery, Lowell. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the First Baptist Church, c/o Bertha Flanagan Scholarship Fund, 1500 Andover St., Tewksbury, MA 01876 are suggested.
