DRACUT - John H. Iwanicki, 49, of Dracut, died Saturday morning, June 27, 2009, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Michelle C. (Firneno) Iwanicki with whom he would have celebrated 22 years of marriage on July 18, 2009.
Born in Lowell on July 13, 1959, he was a son of the late John and Joanne (Vielle) Iwanicki. He received his education in the Lowell school system and was a member of the first graduating class of the Lowell Vocational High School in 1978.
An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country during peace time as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps.
Mr. Iwanicki had been employed for 25 years as a refrigeration mechanic by the Hussman Corporation in Salem, NH. More recently and until the time of his illness he was employed by Harris Environmental in North Andover and was a member of the Massachusetts Pipe fitters Union Local 537.
He enjoyed camping and was an avid year round fisherman who enjoyed fishing locally on Long Pond and Lake Mascuppic in Dracut, on Crystal Lake in Chelmsford as well as some secret spots in Attitash, NH. He was a huge fan of the New England Patriots, especially Tedy Bruschi, as well as the Boston Red Sox. Two weeks ago, through the Dream Foundation, he was able to realize a life long dream and promise to his daughter to be able to meet the Red Sox players and venture out onto the field at Fenway Park. He was also a lifetime member of the Polish American Veterans in Lowell
John always cherished the time he spent in the company of his family and his friends.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter Amanda Iwanicki and her fiancee Scott Fournier of Pepperell; one sister Martha Iwanicki of Lowell; two brothers Joseph Iwanicki and his wife Linda of Litchfield, NH and Michael Iwanicki and his wife Stacey of Hudson, NH; many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; several nieces and nephews including Matthew and Brian Iwanicki, Justin Greenlaw, Joshua Iwanicki as well as his godchild and niece Kaleigh Iwanicki; and several grandnieces
Friends may call at DRACUT FUNERAL HOME 2159 Lakeview Avenue, DRACUT, on Tuesday from 4 until 8 PM. His Funeral will be held from the funeral home on Wednesday at 8 AM followed by his Funeral Mass celebrated at 9 AM in St. Marguerite D'Youville Church, Dracut. Interment in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Lowell.
