W. BOYLSTON: James M. O’Brien 71 of W. Boylston, died Wednesday at UMASS Memorial Hospital in Worcester. He was the husband of Carol J. (Hadley) O’Brien.
Born in Dorchester, October 26, 1937 a son of the late John F. and Anna J. (Leforte) O’Brien he was raised and educated in Dorchester, and had lived in Franklin for more than 45 years before moving to W. Boylston 3 years ago.
Mr. O’Brien was a union pipefitter and a member of Boston Local #537. He also owned and operated the former JM O’Brien Heating and Air Conditioning Co. in Franklin.
He served in the US Army from 1957 to 1959. He attained the rank of Pfc, and also served in the Army reserve.
He was a member of York, Maine Elks Lodge # 2788, and a former longtime member of Franklin Lodge # 2136 in Franklin. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 0462 and the Disabled American Veterans. A former communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Franklin, he and his wife enjoyed many summers at Camp Eaton in York, Maine. He loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 48 years are 4 daughters: Kelley O. Mawdsley & her husband William of Shrewsbury, Karen M. Ober and her husband Brian of Upton, Carolyn “Lyn” O’Brien and her husband James of Franklin, Lauren Saunders and her husband Tim of Danbury, CT. a brother Robert O’Brien of Foxboro, and 8 grandchildren.
He was also the brother of the late Eleanor Frost, Paul and Jack O’Brien.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral with military honors Saturday at 11:15AM from the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. www.franklinfuneral.com, with a funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church 1 Church SQ Franklin at 12 noon. Interment is private.
Calling hours are Friday 4-8 PM. The Franklin Lodge of Elks will conduct a Lodge of Sorrows service at the funeral home at 7PM.
