Josephine Polanin, 85, of Olyphant, died Tuesday in Mercy Hospice after a brief illness. She was the widow of Theodore Polanin, who died June 10, 1981.
Born in Olyphant, daughter of the late John and Anna Novajosky Pallo, she graduated in 1942 from Olyphant High School. She was a lifelong member of Holy Ghost Church, Olyphant, its Confraternity of Christian Women and Guild, and a faithful participant in the Eucharistic Adoration program at the Pope John Paul II Chapel at St. Patrick's Church in Olyphant. She was also a dedicated volunteer at the weekly Monday night bingo at St. Mary's Visitation Parish in Dickson City for the past 40 years.
Josephine's family would like to send a sincere thank you to Dr. Linda Thomas Hemak and Dr. Susan Baroody of the Scranton Temple Residency Program for the exceptional care and compassion extended to them during her illness.
Surviving are a daughter, Deborah and husband, Ronald Stepkovitch, Olyphant: a granddaughter, attorney Sandra Stepkovitch, Olyphant; a sister, Irene, Throop; a brother-in-law, Harold Borgna, Endicott, N.Y.; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, John Pallo, Syracuse, N.Y.; three sisters, Ann Straka, Olyphant; Margaret Darlak, Olyphant; and Mary Ann (Mame) Borgna, Endicott, N.Y.
The funeral will be Friday at 9 a.m. from the Michael P. Glinsky Funeral Home Inc., 129 Grant St., Olyphant, with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 in Holy Ghost Church. Interment, parish cemetery, Blakely.
