Obituary

Roy Sherwood Emerson Jr., 78, died Monday June 22nd at the Derry Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Roy was born in Yonkers NY, January 30, 1931 to the late Roy S. Emerson Sr., and Frances (Belcher). Roy worked 42 years for the Metro North Commuter Rail Road as an Engineer. Trains were his passion and he enjoyed attending local train shows. Mr. Emerson loved family vacations on Cape Cod and especially the time he spent on Sandy Neck Beach. He proudly served our country during the Korean War in the Army, earning the Occupation Medal of Japan, Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars and the United Nations Service Medal.
Mr. Emerson leaves his wife, Joan C. (Carlson) Emerson of New Port Richey, FL. He also leaves his loving children, Donald Emerson and his wife Janet of Derry, Elizabeth Jones and her husband Eric of New Milford, CT, Robert Emerson of Derry and Leslie Anne Emerson of New York, his sister, Frances Pollack of New York and two grandchildren.
The family received friends Friday from 6-8p.m. and Saturday from 12-2p.m. at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St. Derry, NH. Donations may be made in memory of Roy to the local animal shelter of one’s choice.
