Elna Varnum Tucker, 88, of Tifton died Saturday, June 20, 2009, in Leesburg. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 22, 2009, at Eastside Baptist Church. Rev. Tommy McDonald and Rev. Steve Johnson will officiate with burial to follow at 1:00 p.m. in Tift Memorial Gardens. Grandchildren and great grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 21, 2009, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mrs. Tucker was born on August 30, 1920 in Lee County and was the daughter of Luther Alvin Varnum and Annie Lou Young Varnum, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Mayo M. Tucker, Sr.; and two brothers, Ray Varnum and Roy Varnum. She was a homemaker and a member of Eastside Baptist Church. She had lived in Tift County for 64 years.
Mrs. Tucker is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Mayo and Lori Tucker of Tifton; two daughters, Mary Ellen and Joe Mercer of Albany and Cindy and Don Milner of Tallahassee, Florida; one sister, Nina Iler of Albany; seven grandchildren, Marc Mercer, Jolie Grace and her husband Zane, Tarah Scarberry and her husband James, Kellie Tucker, Cody Tucker, Curt Milner and Clint Milner; and seven great grandchildren.
