Obituary

TEWKSBURY: John V. Wojtkiewicz, age 76, a lifelong North Tewksbury resident, passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2009 at his home, with his family by his side.
He was the devoted husband of Maureen (Grant) Wojtkiewicz, with whom he celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary on October 20, 2008.
Born at home in Tewksbury, on February 20, 1933, John was the son of the late John M. and Victoria (Ul) Wojtkiewicz.
He attended Tewksbury schools and graduated from Tewksbury High School.
During his high school years, John served as captain of the only undefeated and untied "Redmen" football team in Tewksbury High School history, and in 1996 was inducted to the Tewksbury High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
Mr. Wojtkiewicz served during the Korean War in the U.S. Air Force. He was awarded several decorations including the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
Following his military service, he attended and later graduated from the former Lowell Technological Institute (Lowell Tech), where he received his B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering.
Prior to his retirement in 2002, he was employed as electrical engineer by the Liquid Solids Controls Company of Upton, where he worked for 15 years. John previously worked for over 25 years for the High Voltage Engineering Company in Burlington.
Mr. Wojtkiewicz was a communicant of Saint Robert Bellarmine Parish of Andover.
He enjoyed many activities including boating, photography and traveling with his family to Cape Cod and the South Western United States. In addition, Mr. Wojtkiewicz was certified as a small aircraft pilot and loved to fly small airplanes especially out of the former Tew-Mac Airport in Tewksbury.
Besides his wife, Maureen, he is survived by his children, Scott M. Wojtkiewicz and his wife Theresa of Bedford, NH, Donna J. Thibodeau and her partner Bill Dinardo of Southboro, Sandra J. Vatalaro and her husband Paul of N. Andover and Lisa A. LaRochelle and her husband Stephen of N. Chelmsford; seven grandchildren, Jamie L. and Craig M. Wojtkiewicz, Katharine A. and Jack A. Thibodeau, Christopher S., Jenna M. and Zachary T. LaRochelle; three sisters, Priscilla Shaw of Arlington, TX, Alice E. Avila and Jenny Peterson both of S. Yarmouth; also many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Wojtkiewicz was the brother of the late Helen Berthiaume and Stella Hyde.
Calling hours Sunday, June 21st, from 4-8 p.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Funeral Monday, June 22nd, at 12 p.m. from the funeral home, followed by his Funeral Mass at 1 p.m., at St. Robert Bellarmine Church, 198 Haggetts Pond Rd., Andover. Interment at St. Mary Cemetery, Tewksbury. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Cancer Center at Lowell General Hospital , c/o Development Office, 295 Varnum Ave., Lowell, MA 01854 are suggested.
